Recently, I visited with my family. When you read the word ‘family’ what feelings come up for you? Is it a warm, fulfilling feeling, filled with joy or is it the opposite? Living in this illusory world, where bodies are frail and egos are meant to deceive, family members can be challenging whether still present in our lives or not. As a Relationship Life Coach for 14 years, I can tell you that the impact of one family member can last a lifetime, good or bad.
I have been using the following prayer to gain some peace of mind after my visit. When I was in the throes of it all, I could not imagine experiencing any peace, but repeating this prayer has helped me gain some perspective and have a few more peaceful moments.
A Prayer for Forgiveness
“I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace.
I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise.
I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace.
I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of my wrong decision, if I will let him.
I choose to let Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.” (T83)
Hint: Remember, a little willingness and the recognition that you can choose again goes a long way here. When you’re out and about during the day and cannot remember most of the prayer, just a few words will do. It is your intention that matters most.
